Coach Jay has
single handedly held the CYO football together for many years. He has never
given up, even when the school roster began to decline. Somehow he always makes
it through the year with enough players. Jay welcomes any eligible student and
this year aggressively recruited in the Philadelphia area, thereby giving
students without a Football program a chance to play. We welcome these new
families into the League and we hope that you and your children will treasure
the memories of 2005.

Goals and Expectations
Jay believes in hard work and expects all players to give their best on the field. Here are his goals and expectations for your son
Goals
| Teach the valuable lesson of team work, and it’s necessity in a successfully run football program, as well as in life and community | |
| Teach your son the fundamental skills required to take him to the next level of football | |
| Provide your son with a strong foundation of memories and friendships to build upon on the onset of his football career. |
Expectations
| Playing time on the field will be a direct result of practice time. All practices are important, and every effort must be made to attend each practice | |
| There is no “Mandatory Play Requirement”. CYO football is competitive and success oriented. However, with that being said, every effort will be made to accommodate all players if possible | |
| Absence from a practice requires a phone call to one of the coaches listed below. | |
| All coaching decisions are final | |
| All parents, siblings and onlookers are asked never to enter the playing field during games or practices. Quality practice time is a must for a successful team. | |
| Each coach on the staff is willing to answer any and all questions that you may have, but please be sure that it does not interfere with your son’s practice time or game preparation. Please see me after practice, or after the game. We work hard all week and game days are very important to us. | |
| We expect all players and parents to show respect for each other at all times. | |
| Most importantly, we expect that all players maintain their school grades |
Volunteer Opportunities
For our new families and as a reminder to the 2004 families, we are always in need of your help. “The Cyril Moms” run the snack stand at all home games. In order for all the mothers to watch their sons on the field, a list of Varsity volunteers will run the stand while the Junior Varsity plays, and vice-versa. This allows you to participate and assist the other parents so that, they too, can enjoy the games. Besides the Snack shop we also have the following needs:
| Parents to hold the down markers | |
| One parent from both Varsity and Junior Varsity to bring a bowl of oranges for their respective team for each game. | |
| Game Statistician | |
| Someone to video tape all non-rain games |
We will be canvassing the families with the volunteer schedule. This way you can select the date that is convenient for you. We thank you in advance for your assistance!

Coach John Bailey Coach Bailey grew up in Ardmore Pa and attended St Colman’s grade school. He played football from the 5th to the 8th grade as a tight end and a defensive end. Through those years Coach Bailey played 4 sports: football, lacrosse, basketball and baseball. He would have attended Archbishop Carroll High School if they would have had lacrosse on their list of available sports. However, as they did not, he attended Lower Merion High School so that he could play lacrosse. John went to college at Central Michigan University and played football as tight end for all 4 years.
John
is married to Regina and they have 2 boys, Matthew and Patrick. Both boys are as
athletic as their dad and both play multiple sports. He lives in East Lansdowne
and is a fork lift operator at Con Agra in Folcroft. “I believe in teaching
the fundamentals to the kids so that they are prepared to move right into the
Junior Varsity team and have something to offer at the next level. I also like
working with the players and watch them evolve into a team, all working together
to attain one goal” Mr. Bailey
said, “That is the greatest reward of all. I also want to see what each child
has to offer and I enjoy working with them to learn the basics of that
position.” Last year the flag team went 8-1-1, a testimony to Coach Bailey and his players’ hard work and
determination. Flag football is still taking sign ups and welcomes any
interested player. Please contact Mr. Bailey at 610.626.4379.

As promised, here is our newest edition of Wildcat Weekly. This starts our
ongoing section “From the Coach’s Corner”, a weekly game
wrap up from Coach Jay.
From the Coach’s
Corner
Saturday
9/17/2005
JV WILDCATS WIN
The game started off a little slow with both teams
getting to know each other, but with some fine blocking up front by Michael
Burton, Mike McBurney, Roxie Turner, Jerry Bjorklund, Brian Berry and Joe
DelCasale, the Wildcats exploded to a 6-0 lead on a Touchdown run by Ishmere
Gibson who had a total of three touchdowns on the day.
IHM Steelers kept it close and continued to put
pressure on our Defense but Paul Mike
Rementer, Nick Augustine, Charlie Anderson, Sean Ferry and Austin Singer held them to only two Touchdowns on the night .The
young Wildcats will be looking to improve and continue to stay on top off the
C Division as they take on the Vikings from St .Laurence (0-1) this Saturday
at 69th Street Field. This will be a hard fought battle between two
neighborhood rivals.
Special
thanks to the
Burtons
and Rementer families for their help with water at the St Joe game (Our players
drank over 20 gallons of water on that game day!)
The Volunteer schedule is a work in progress but is posted. This way any parents who volunteered for the next two home games can plan out their day. We are in need of several more Varsity moms for the end of October. Anyone who can assist, please let us know and, again, many thanks. Your continued support is essential and much appreciated.

“From the Coach’s Corner”
10/16/2005
What a Beautiful day it was down 69 St field !
Wow ! That’s all I can say about the school spirit and pride that was lingering down the field all morning . I saw many smiles before, during and after the games . There was a FAMILY atmosphere from start to finish .
At this time I would personally like to thank EVERYONE who was involved in making this the BEST homecoming in my tenure here at St. Cyril.
When I first started here in 1995 we didn’t have a homecoming .We didn’t start it until the following year and we started it small but nice .Through the years we added a few special things and this year we came together and put on the most spectacular show of enthusiasm, pride and class. I looked around the crowd while Rose Wells was beautifully singing and thought to myself that this is exactly what my goal for Homecoming was and should be with brothers, sisters, Grandparents, Moms , Dads , and friends smiling and just enjoying each other’s company .
Before the games even started we were WINNERS with Jack Shingle putting on a great show and Father Kearns giving us the prayer that gave all players the confidence to go try and do their BEST . ………and this is what followed!
TWO BIG WINS FOR THE WILDCATS OF ST.CYRIL!
Varsity started off with a drive of 60 yards to go up 6-0 but Sacred Heart came back to tie it up 6-6 but the boys didn’t put their heads down .With some hard running from Dennis Nyugen, Pat Cantwell, Asheem Gibson behind some hard blocking from Anthony Galantino, we continued to pick up the pace and never let SH get any breathing room. Defensive led by Malik Fields , Josh Dukes, Marco Dapkey , Walt Miler, Adam Grogan and Nick Fleming held Sacred Heart to that one and only score early in the game. A lot of credit goes out to Coach Bill Tyler for getting the O-line { Derrick Ferguson, David Richards, Josh Cesares, Mike Melazzo} to play their best game of the year ……CYRILS 32 Sacred Heart 6 .
Later on in the day was a clash of two 4-0 JV football teams and a first place battle .It was hard hitting from the beginning and whatever team go stay in their the longest would of won this one .After being down 13-12 at the half the young Wildcats set up on Defense led by Paul Mike Rementer , James Powell, Austin Singer, Charlie Anderson, Na’quan #10 and Timmy Wilson didn’t let Sacred Heart score another TD in the second half. Offense, led by Ishmer Gibson and Sean Ferry, came up huge, controlling the ball for most of the second half behind some great blocking by Brian Berry , Mike McBurney, Michael Burton, Jerry Bjorkland and Roxie Turner. We scored two more time to take over FIRST PLACE with a record of 5-0 …….Keep up the hard work!
